Press Release Summary = There\'s a term in tennis called \"match tough.\" It refers to
the competitive edge a player gets when pushed to the limits of his/her ability. It
describes why a top-notched tennis star can take a six-month layoff while at the
same time be out on the court practicing every day, be in great shape physically,
and yet the first day back in active competition, get blown away by a no-name.

Press Release Body = There\'s a term in tennis called \"match tough.\" It refers to the
competitive edge a player gets when pushed to the limits of his/her ability. It
describes why a top-notched tennis star can take a six-month layoff while at the
same time be out on the court practicing every day, be in great shape physically,
and yet the first day back in active competition, get blown away by a no-name.
Indeed in the world of sports, layoffs-mental or physical-can be costly, if not
disastrous. After Larry Bird\'s team won the NBA championships, an interviewer asked
him how long it would be before he touched a basketball again. Bird replied, \"Maybe
a couple of weeks.\"
There are other superstars who are on a constant year-round training program. Why?
Because they realize that it\'s what you do in the off-season that makes you so tough
during the regular season and, eventually, the playoffs.

So what does this have to do with managing a chiropractic office? Everything! Hardly
a week goes by, when I don\'t get a call from a doctor somewhere who is longing for
the \"good old days\" of the late 1970s to mid 1980s. You know how easy it was to get
all those new patients (great insurance coverage, etc.). It seems as though modern
times have taken the spirit of winning out of some doctors.

What should you do if you suffer from this malady? First, realize that times are
never good or bad, they\'re just different. Just as in the past there were successful
strategies to build a thriving practice, there are successful strategies today to
assist you in building the practice of your dreams. Your job is to find those
strategies, master them and use them on a daily basis and not quit. Now, this last
point about not quitting is sometimes not taken to heart and it creates a tremendous
hardship. Some doctors, associate a momentary rise in their office statistics with
an invitation to immediately sit back and relax. This is the source of what I call
the hypoglycemic practice-it constantly fluctuates up and down. And it leads to
burnout. It occurs when you keep putting out and putting out and you keep coming up
short of the rewards you think your efforts should achieve.www.NewPatientsOnline.com

Summary

1. Find out what management strategies work in your area. You must make this
distinction: Don\'t do what another doctor is doing in a large metropolitan area if
you practice in a small town. It could lead to disaster (New York City and rural
Tennessee don\'t have much in common).

2. Master the strategy-it won\'t work to do the right management procedure incorrectly.

3. Take action and don\'t back off. As in life, you will only get out of your
practice what you put into it. A better tennis player isn\'t made simply by lowering
the net, and you sure don\'t become a better chiropractor by backing off every time
your stats take a turn for the better. Even if you are fortunate enough to practice
in a noncompetitive area, you should not allow this advantage to make you
complaisant. Increased competition will be just around the corner, next door and
across the street in the next few years. It will never be any easier than it is
right now.
